"The Future Is Now" was Hall of Fame Coach George Allen's mantra, and for one magical season, it was for Long Beach State as well as the legendary NFL coach breathed new life into the 49er football program during the 1990 season. Finishing with a 6-5 record, Allen led the program to its first winning record in four years, and went a perfect 6-0 at home, finishing the season with a three-game winning streak. Allen's death following the season ended his time with the 49ers prematurely, but the former Rams and Redskins head coach left an indelible mark on Long Beach State regardless.
