Frank Bowman

Perhaps no one has had as much impact on 49er athletics as Frank Bowman. His on-campus responsibilites as director of housing have been significant, but even they pale in comparision to his role as a faculty representative (1973-81) and as president of the Pacific Coast Athletic Association. Bowman played a key leadership role in the conference's expansion and in the creation of the conference's annual basketball tournament and the California Bowl. Additionally, Bowman-led teams annually contribute significantly to the school's annual scholarship drive. Bowman's 1989 team raised a record $92,000.
