The 2008 American League Rookie of the Year, Longoria is a three-time AL All-Star, a two-time Gold Glove winner and the winner of the 2009 Silver Slugger at third base, where he has anchored the position in the middle of the Tampa Bay Rays lineup over his MLB career.
Longoria's professional success has come following a tremendous career at Long Beach State. Transferring to the Dirtbags after spending one season at Rio Hondo CC, Longoria spent two seasons at the Beach, hitting .336 with an OPS of .925, hitting 16 home runs with 73 RBI in two years. The Big West Co-Player of the Year in 2006, Longoria was a Golden Spikes Award Finalist, given to the best player in college baseball. He hit .353 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI that season, fresh off of a summer where he was the MVP of the Cape Cod League. The third overall selection in the 2006 MLB draft, Longoria is the highest draft pick in school history, and was a second-team All-American on top of being a two-time All-Big West selection.
