Dr.Jack Rose

Rose was a busy man during his 25 years as a coach at LBSU. In addition to the usual complement of meets scheudled for his track and cross country teams, Rose put on 125 all-comers meets, 41 Long Beach Relays, three conference championships and one national championship. Rose-coached teams won six conference titles (five men, one women) and one Division-II national title in 1967. Rose retired from coaching in 1981, but remained active in the track and field community until his death in 1996. The annual Jack Rose Relays and the track stadium, are both in memory of Rose. He was the executive director of the National Track and Field Hall of Fame and was the venue chief at the Coliseum for the 1984 Olympic Games. He was one of the world's leading authorities on Olympic history. He was named LBSU's outstanding professor in 1983.
