“Dr. John” has a been a fixture in the Long Beach community since 1954... upon returning to Long Beach in 1954 to begin his private medical practice, Dr. John was approached in 1956 by Long Beach City College to see if he would volunteer his services and from 1956 until his retirement in 1988 he gave freely of his time to Long Beach high schools, Long Beach City College and Long Beach State... he received his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois and in 1950 he graduated with a MD degree from Illinois’ Medical School... from 1951-53 he served as chief medical training officer with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean campaign... his involvement at Long Beach State begin in 1969 when Jim Stangeland became head football coach at LBSU... since that time he has been involved in several areas, including being an active member of the Athletic Association’s annual scholarship fund-drive... Dr. John was a member of the President’s Associates and he was a trustee for the California State University system from 1986-1994.
