Don Reed
- Induction:
- 1986
Reed hasn't coached football since 1968 and has been retired since 1980, but in 1986 he still got telephone calls from coaches seeking advice. That's a tribute to Reed's offense, which was doing things in the 1960's considered brillant today. He was the head 49ers coach for 11 seasons and compiled a 57-47-2 reocrd. Reed's 1964-65 teams were 17-3 and ranked among the nation's best in offense and defense. His 1965 team still holds the school-record for TD passes (23) and the 1964 team set the standard for rushing average (5.6 yards per carrry). Reed also coached golf, tying for two conference titles.
