Howard, an inside linebacker, lettered three years for the 49ers (1991-83) and earned All-Pacific Coast Athletic Association (PCAA) honors each season. He was a second team pick in 1981 as a sophomore and a first team selection in 1982 and 1983. His 51 unassisted tackles in the 1983 season ranks ninth-best on the 49er single season chart. He was a two-time Associated Press All-America honorable mention selection and helped lead LBSU to an 8-4 mark in 1983, including wins over Kansas State (28-20), Hawai’i (23-21) and San Diego State (20-13). His senior year he led the team with 89 total tackles, including six tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries. He finished his career with 242 career tackles and 16 pass deflections. He played for the Los Angeles Express of the USFL in 1984, following his graduation. We went on to play for the Minnesota Vikings(1985-1989) Dallas Cowboys(1989-1991) New England Patriots(1991-1993) caping a nine-year NFL career. Howard also attended CSULB during the years of 1981-1983.
