Dave Rodda

One would be hard pressed to find another coach who has shown so much passion for the sport of track and field as Dave Rodda. A 1968 graduate of Long Beach State, Rodda has been a pioneer for women in the sport of track and field for numerous years. He has coached 12 track Olympians, including bronze medalist in the high jump Joannie Huntley, sprinter Martha Watson and heptathlete Sharon Hansen. For the past six years Rodda has been an assistant coach at Long Beach State and this past spring he was named the 2006 NCAA Division I West Region Assistant Coach of the Year. The 49er men won the 2006 Big West Championship and sent five athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, three of which earned All-America honors. Rodda was an assistant coach for the U.S. in the 1988 Olympics and was a Pan Am coach in 1995. He also was a coach in 1991 at the World Championships. During his short tenure at Long Beach State, he has coached 17 all-conference athletes, eight Big West Champions, 10 national qualifiers and three All-Americans.
