Art Johnson (’62 B.S., ’69 M.S. Civil Engineering) is one of the strongest supporters of the Long Beach State athletics programs. He has served on numerous campus athletic organizations, including President of the 49er Athletic Association and on the 49er Hall of Fame Committee. His devotion to the community also extended over the years to supporting numerous organizations and coaching youth sports. After beginning his engineering career in aerospace, he joined the L.A. Department of Building and Safety where he remained for 33 years, eventually becoming its general manager. In 1986 he coordinated the Departments participation in the March of Dimes Walk America fund drive and the following year led the City of L.A. Walk America event, which raised more than $163,000. His dedication earned him 1996 City of Los Angeles Employee of the Year honors. Johnson was selected by President Maxson to receive the President’s Distinguished Service Award at the 2004 Alumni Awards Banquet. He is married to Margie and they have three children (all CSULB grads) and five grandchildren
