Long Beach State held a comfortable lead for most of the third frame as it scored seven unanswered to push its advantage to 40-29, at the 7:51 mark. The Aggies then closed the gap to five, but that was the closest they would get as the Beach went back on top by 11 and led 50-44 after three.
In the fourth quarter, UCD made it interesting as it came within three (58-55) with 4:53 remaining. Benton then responded with three-point play and back-to-back treys from Hascheff and Gertz gave LBSU a 67-57 lead with 2:20 to go.
